10 Best Wall Mount Electric Fireplaces 2022: Reviews & Guying Guide

10 Best Wall Mount Electric Fireplaces 2022: Reviews & Guying Guide Note: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Shopping for a wall-mounted electric fireplace?

You’ve come to the right place.

A wall-mount electric fireplace is a great alternative for modern-style homes and for homes without an existing fireplace.

It’s also ideal for smaller spaces that don’t have the floor space for a freestanding electric fireplace. Because a wall mounted electric fireplace doesn’t take up any precious floor real estate, it’s perfect for small homes and apartments.

Wall mount electric fireplaces can either be mounted on the wall or recessed so that they sit flush against the wall. The type of installation depends on the location of the heat and air intake vents.

Something else to note is that most wall mount electric fireplaces tend to have modern or contemporary styling. If you are looking for the charming aesthetic of a traditional-looking fireplace, get either an electric fireplace insert (if you have an existing fireplace) or a freestanding electric fireplace.

What’s In This Buying Guide?

In this buying guide, we review and compare the ten best wall electric mount fireplaces. We’ve picked many different styles and sizes, so you can find the right one for your home.

Most of our top picks have a built-in heater, so they also act as supplemental space heaters for rooms up to 400 square feet.

1. Editor’s Choice: Touchstone Onyx 80001 Wall Mounted Electric Fireplace

Touchstone 80001 - Onyx Electric Fireplace - (Black) - 50 Inch Wide - On-Wall Hanging - Log & Crystal Included - 5 Flame Settings - Realistic Flame - 1500/750W Timer & Remote

The Touchstone 80001 Onyx electric fireplace is the best choice for most people. It’s affordable, it’s big (50″ wide), it has very realistic flames, and it comes with a built-in space heater.

And because it’s a wall-mounted (not recessed) fireplace, anyone can install it in just a few minutes.

Pros

  • Affordable.
  • Realistic logs and flames with adjustable brightness.
  • Built-in heater with two heat settings.
  • Easy DIY installation.
  • You can choose between logs and crystals for the ember bed (both are included).
  • Comes with remote control.

Cons

  • No thermostat.
  • The heat blower is a bit noisy.

Our Review

The Touchstone 80001 is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to jazz up a bank wall. At 50″ wide, the electric fireplace immediately becomes the center of attention, tying together to room nicely with its realistic flames and ember bed.

You can choose between two styles. If you want a traditional look, use the log set. If you prefer a more modern style, use the crystals instead. Both the log set and crystals are included with the fireplace, so you can switch between them anytime you want.

You can adjust the brightness and intensity of the flames through five levels, ranging from a soft glow to a large blaze.

Because the Touchstone 80001 uses LED lamps to create the flame effects, the glass front doesn’t get hot to the touch, making it safe for kids and pets.

The only part that gets relatively hot is the top where the heat vents are. If you plan to install the Touchstone 80001 electric fireplace under your TV, make sure there are at least two feet of space between the vents and the TV.

The heater is designed to provide supplemental heat for small and medium-size rooms of up to 400 square feet. For smaller rooms or when it’s a bit warm, you can select the lower 750W heat setting.

Installation is easy and fast; you do not need a pro. Mounting brackets and hardware are included with the fireplace. The only thing you’ll need is a good drill. The fireplace plugs into a standard outlet; no need to get a pro to hardwire it.

You cannot recess the Touchstone 80001 electric fireplace into the wall. But it’s not too thick (it’s just 5.5″ deep) that it protrudes too far from the wall. Most customers love the 3D effect it creates.

The Touchstone 80001 comes with remote control with which you can adjust heat and flame effect, turn the heater on/off, and set an auto-off timer.

Issues & Limitations

The heater has no thermostat control. You can only change the heat output between the full 1500W and a lower 750W. You cannot select a specific temperature and have the heater maintain it.

Another issue is the noise level. The heater blower is a bit noisy, especially when you select the highest heat setting.

Bottom Line

The Touchstone 80001 Onyx is a great choice for anyone looking for an affordable wall mount electric fireplace that has realistic flames and comes with a powerful built-in heater.

2. Thinnest Wall-Mounted Electric Fireplace: R.W.FLAME 50 inch

R.W.FLAME 50 inch Recessed and Wall Mounted,The Thinnest Electric Fireplace,Low Noise, Fit for 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 Stud, Remote Control with Timer,Touch Screen,Adjustable Flame Color and Speed

If you don’t want to recess a wall mount electric fireplace, but also don’t want a thick box hanging on your wall, the R.W.FLAME 50″ electric fireplace is the best choice.

Its 3.8″ thickness gives it a cleaner look compared to most wall mount electric fireplaces.

If you want an even cleaner look, there’s an option to recess it, though that takes a bit more work and time in installation.

Pros

  • Wall-mounted or recessed.
  • Sleek 3.8″ thick design.
  • Realistic flames with multiple effects settings.
  • Heater with two power levels.
  • Easy DIY

Cons

  • It doesn’t come with a log set for those who prefer a more traditional look.

Our Review

You have the option to mount the R.W.FLAME electric fireplace or recess it into the wall. Either method of installation works great thanks to the thin design. So if you decide to mount it, it won’t protrude too far from the wall.

The cable plugs into a standard outlet, but if you want, you can call an electrician to hardwire it for a cleaner look, especially if you opt for the recessed option.

The flames look very realistic. But what’s most impressive are the different color and brightness effects you can choose from.

You can choose from five flame speeds, five brightness settings, and 12 flame and bed colors. This gives you lots of options to customize the fireplace depending on the mood or time of day.

The built-in heater gives out 1500W of heating power, enough for small and medium-size rooms up to 400 square feet. On warmer days or for smaller spaces, you can select the lower 750W setting.

The heater features an automatic kill switch in case it gets too hot. If you are worried you’ll forget to turn the heater off when you sleep or go to work, you can set an auto-off timer.

Selecting all these features and settings is easy using the touchscreen control panel on the fireplace or the included remote control.

Issues & Limitations

If you are looking for a wall mount electric fireplace that has a traditional look, the R.W.FLAME is not it. For the ember bed, the R.W.FLAME uses crystals instead of logs.

You can adjust the flame color to have that traditional yellow appearance, but it’s doesn’t have the same rustic look of an electric fireplace with faux logs.

Bottom Line

The R.W.FLAME 50-inch electric fireplace is a great choice for anyone looking for a sleek contemporary electric fireplace that can be mounted on or recessed into the wall.

3. Best 60″: Regal Flame Denali Black Wall Mounted Fireplace

Regal Flame Denali Black 60 Log, Pebble, Crystal, 3 Color Heater Electric Wall Mounted Fireplace Better Than Wood Fireplaces, Gas Logs, Fireplace Inserts, Gas Fireplaces, Space Heaters, Propane

If you have a large wall, a wider 60″ electric fireplace will look better than a 50-inch one. The Regal Flame Denali is one of the best 60-inch wall mount electric fireplaces. It has adjustable flame effects, a built-in heater, and two ember bed materials (crystals or logs).

Pros

  • Perfect for filling up a big wall.
  • Realistic flames with multiple effects.
  • Come with remote control.
  • Interchangeable logs and crystals for the ember bed.
  • Built-in heater.

Cons

  • It cannot be recessed.
  • Heat blows upwards instead of outwards, meaning it takes longer to warm up a room.

Our Review

The 60″ wide Regal Fame Denali instantly becomes the center point of whichever room you install it in. It is especially ideal for decorating a large wall.

This is a wall-mounted electric fireplace. You cannot recess it. But it’s only 4.6″ deep, so it doesn’t appear too boxy on the wall.

The flames flicker in a very realistic way and are bright enough for a sunlit room. You cannot adjust flame brightness, but you can choose between three color options.

The Regal Fame Denali electric fireplace comes with both crystals and logs. The front glass comes off, allowing you to use whichever media you prefer. The logs have a traditional style, while the crystals give off a contemporary look.

Similar to most electric fireplaces, the Regal Fame Denali comes with a built-in heater. With a max output of 1500W, it can warm rooms up to 400 square feet. You can also select the lower 750W heat setting.

On warm days, you can turn the heat off completely and just enjoy the flames.

The Regal Fame Denali comes with remote control for easy access to all features and settings. In addition to controlling the heat and flames, you can also set an auto-off timer for up to 7.5 hours.

Issues & Limitations

The most common complaint from users is that the heat from the vents blows upwards instead of outwards. It takes time before you feel the heat.

One way to quicken healing and improve distribution is by turning on the overhead fan. It’ll spread the hot air throughout the room.

Bottom Line

The Regal Fame Denali is the best electric fireplace for large spaces. It’s bigger than most wall mount electric fireplaces.

4. Best Recessed: Touchstone 80004 Sideline Recessed Electric Fireplace

Touchstone 80004 - Sideline Electric Fireplace - 50 Inch Wide - in Wall Recessed - 5 Flame Settings - Realistic 3 Color Flame - 1500/750 Watt Heater - (Black) - Log & Crystal Hearth Options

If you prefer the clean and minimalist look of a recessed electric fireplace, we recommend the Touchstone 80004 Sideline 50″ electric fireplace.

You can plug it in or hardwire it, depending on what’s most convenient for you.

Pros

  • Clean look – perfect for those who prefer a contemporary minimalist style.
  • Adjustable flame brightness and color.
  • Interchangeable logs and crystals.
  • DIY installation.
  • Built-in heater.

Cons

  • Installation takes longer compared to surface mounting.

Our Review

If you install it properly, the Touchstone 80004 Sideline should sit flush against the wall with a black trim covering it.

The glass front completes the modern look of the Touchstone Sideline.

By the way, the manufacturer says you can also surface-mount the Touchstone 80004 Sideline, though it won’t have the same clean look as recessing. The 5.5″ thickness can make it appear too boxy.

When you recess the Touchstone Sideline, you can plug it in or hardwire it if you don’t want any cables in sight. Note that hardwiring will require calling an electrician.

The flames are very realistic, and you can adjust their brightness (5 levels) and color (3 colors). As or the ember bed, you can use the included log set if you want a traditional look or go with the crystals if you want a contemporary style.

The 1500W built-in heater provides supplemental heat for a mid-size room up to 400 sq. ft. You can select a lower 750W output to reduce the heat level.

Other features we like include an auto-off timer and independent heat and flame controls. Note that you can control all features and settings using the included remote control.

Issues & Limitations

The main downside of buying a wall recessed electric fireplace is that installation takes longer. You need to cut a hole in your wall, build a frame, and mount the fireplace.

Bottom Line

The Touchstone 80004 Sideline is the best electric fireplace for homeowners who prefer the clean style of a wall-recessed electric fireplace.

5. Best Luxury: DIMPLEX Prism 74″

DIMPLEX Prism 74" Electric Fireplace Wall-Mounted with Acrylic Ember Bed

Looking for a luxurious wall mount electric fireplace? We recommend the DIMPLEX Prism 74″ electric fireplace.

You can recess it into the wall or mount it on the surface. Either way, it adds a grand feel to the room.

Pros

  • Luxury design.
  • Perfect for large rooms.
  • Built-in heater with thermostat control.
  • Adjustable brightness and color.
  • Remote control.

Cons

  • Needs to be hardwired.
  • Expensive.

Our Review

The DIMPLEX Prism electric fireplace is big. It’s 74″ wide. That’s two feet wider than the more common 50″ electric fireplaces.

The long design works well in large homes where you need a fireplace big enough to capture everyone’s attention.

Combined with the sleek trimming and realistic flames, the DIMPLEX Prism certainly does that.

The black trim and acrylic crystal ember bed give the DIMPLEX Prism a contemporary appearance. You can adjust the color theme to match the modern look of the exterior or balance it out with a more traditional flame style.

The DIMPLEX Prism works best when it’s recessed into the wall, but you can also mount it on the surface.

Despite its large size, the DIMPLEX Prism 74″ has the same heating performance as smaller electric fireplaces. The heating performance will be average if you use it in a room larger than 400 square feet.

What we love about the heater is that it has thermostatic control. With most heaters, you can only select a high or low heat setting.

The DIMPLEX Prism remote control has low heat and high heat buttons, but you can also select a specific temperature using two other buttons.

The fireplace indicates the current temperature on a floating display.

Overall, we think the DIMPLEX Prism 74″ is worth the money. Construction quality is great, it looks beautiful, and it effortlessly fills up a large room with its modern aesthetics.

Issues & Limitations

The DIMPLEX Prism 74″ electric fireplace does not come with a plug-in cable. Whether you recess it or mount it on the wall, you’ll need to call an electrician to hardwire it.

The reason for hardwiring is not the heater. A standard outlet can easily handle the heater’s 1500W max output. Hardwiring maintain the clean appearance of the fireplace.

Bottom Line

As long as you don’t mind the price tag, the DIMPLEX Prism 74″ electric fireplace is a great choice if you are looking for a large and luxurious wall mount electric fireplace.

6. Best Vertical: Napoleon Allure-NEFVC38H

Napoleon Allure-NEFVC38H Vertical Wall Hanging Electric Fireplace, 38 Inch, Black

If you find the linear design of most wall mounts electric fireplaces boring, try the vertical Napoleon Allure-NEFVC38H.

The 38″ tall and 16″ wide design works great in smaller spaces or in areas where a vertical design matches better with the room décor.

Pros

  • Perfect for small spaces.
  • Built-in heater.
  • Multiple flame colors, speeds, and brightness settings.
  • Cool side accent lights.
  • Easy installation.

Cons

  • A bit pricey.
  • No logs for those who prefer a traditional look.

Our Review

Napoleon Allure is more than just a wall mount fireplace; it’s also a piece of art. The vertical design, combined with the mood lighting on the sides gives it a unique look. The fireplace is 38″ tall, 16″ wide and 5.6″ thick.

Inside, Napoleon Allure contains crystal in the ember bed, giving the fireplace a contemporary style. The LED flames look realistic.

One thing you’ll love about Napoleon Allure is the customizability. You can adjust the appearance of almost every aspect of the fireplace.

Using the included remote control, you can change the color of the side mood lighting, the ember bed, and the flames as well. You can also adjust the brightness and intensity of the flames.

All these options allow you to customize the Napoleon Allure fireplace to a specific mood or time of day.

As expected, Napoleon Allure also comes with a built-in 1500W heater for rooms up to 400 square feet. You can select a lower 750W setting when you want to save energy or only need mild warming.

The vents are cleverly hidden between the glass and top frame, giving the fireplace a clean, minimalist look.

The remote control has a timer button, so don’t worry, you might forget and leave the heater on for hours. And even if you forget to turn it off, there Napoleon Allure has a safety off switch in case of overheating.

Installing Napoleon Allure is easy. The fireplace comes with the brackets and hardware you need to mount it on the wall. You can plug the Napoleon Allure into a standard outlet or have an electrician hardwire it if you don’t want wires hanging out.

Overall, we love the unique, almost art-like look of the Napoleon Allure wall mount fireplace. It works well for small rooms where you don’t have as much wall space for a traditional linear unit.

Issues & Limitations

If you are shopping for a budget wall mount electric fireplace (under $300), consider one of our other picks. Napoleon Allure is relatively pricey, which is to be expected, considering the unique design and level of customizability.

For the price, however, the Napoleon Allure should have come with a log set to interchange with the crystals for those who prefer the traditional aesthetic of logs.

Bottom Line

The Napoleon Allure-NEFVC38H wall mounts electric fireplace is the best choice or small rooms, and anyone looking for a vertical wall mounts electric fireplace.

7. Best for Heating Large Rooms: Dimplex Ignite XL 60″ Linear Electric Fireplace

Dimplex Ignite XL 60-Inch Linear Electric Fireplace - XLF60, Black

If you want a wall mount electric fireplace that can warm a large room, we recommend the Dimplex Ignite XL 60″ linear electric fireplace.

With 2500W max power output, the built-in heater is powerful enough to warm rooms up to 1,000 square feet.

Pros

  • Powerful heater – ideal for heating large spaces.
  • Beautiful acrylic crystal ember bed.
  • Multi-function remote control.
  • Adjustable color themes.

Cons

  • Expensive.
  • Requires hardwiring, meaning professional installation.
  • No logs.

Our Review

The Dimplex Ignite XL 60″ is one of the most expensive walls mounts electric fireplaces in the market. One reason for the high price tag is the powerful built-in heater.

The heater is most wall mount electric fireplaces only ideal for small and medium-size rooms up to 400 square feet.

For larger rooms, you’ll find it better to keep the heater off since it doesn’t make much difference.

With the Dimplex Ignite XL, you can enjoy the beautiful embers and flames, while heating the room. The built-in heater has an output of 2500W or 8,500 BTUs. At max power, it can quickly warm a space up to 1,000 square feet.

A lower 1500W eco setting saves energy and reduces the heating level.

The best way to control temperature is by using the thermostat adjustment buttons on the remote control. You can set a specific temperature, and the heater will automatically control fan speed and wattage to maintain that temperature.

The remote control also has a button for a heat boost. Pressing this turns the heater to full power to quickly heat the room. You can set the heat boost feature for up to 20 mins (in 5-minute increments).

Other options on the remote control include brightness adjustment, changing the fireplace color themes, and setting a sleep timer.

You can install the Dimplex Ignite XL 60″ in one of three ways: surface mounted, fully recessed (flush with the wall), or partially recessed. Because of the high wattage, you’ll need to have it hardwired.

Issues & Limitations

The Dimplex Ignite XL 60″ is expensive. If you are shopping for a budget electric fireplace, this is not it.

And it’s not just the purchase price you need to think about. Because it requires hardwiring, you’ll need to get an electrician to set it up. That’s more money you need to budget for.

Another downside of hardwiring it is that you cannot plug it into a smart plug for a remote app or smart assistant control.

If you’d like a wall mount electric fireplace you can integrate into your smart home, look for one that plugs into a standard outlet.

For the price, it would have been nice for the manufacturer to provide a log set in addition to the acrylic crystals. That way, you can switch between a modern and traditional look simply by changing the ember bed media.

Bottom Line

Is the Dimplex Ignite XL worth it? We think it is. It looks amazing with sparkling diamond crystals and very realistic flames.

It’s also big, making it a great choice for large rooms. The built-in heater is also more powerful than in most electric fireplaces.

And with a 5-year warranty, you can be sure it’ll last long.

8. Best Budget: R.W.FLAME 30″

R.W.FLAME 30 inch Recessed and Wall Mounted Electric Fireplace, Low Noise,Fit for 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 Stud, Remote Control with Timer,Touch Screen,Adjustable Flame Color and Speed, 750-1500W

If you are shopping on a budget, the R.W.FLAME 30″ is one of the cheapest wall mount electric fireplaces you’ll find. You can recess it into the wall or surface-mount it.

Despite the low price, the flames are very realistic, and the fireplace even includes a built-in heater.

Pros

  • Budget price.
  • Built-in heater.
  • Control via touch screen or remote control.
  • Realistic flames with adjustable appearance.
  • Overheating safety switch.
  • Easy DIY installation.

Cons

  • Smaller than most wall mounts electric fireplaces – not ideal for large rooms.
  • No logs.

Our Review

The R.W.FLAME 30″ is a great choice for anyone looking for a small and cheap wall mount electric fireplace. Because of its size, the R.W.FLAME 30″ works best in smaller rooms.

For the price, the flame and ember bed look surprisingly realistic. From a distance, they look just like real flames.

Using the included remote control or the touchscreen control panel, you can adjust flame speed, fame rightness, and the color of the crystal ember bed. You can also set an auto-off timer.

The built-in 1500W heater can warm rooms up to 400 square feet. On warmer days or for smaller rooms, you can select the lower 750W heater setting.

Installation is easy and quick. It’s up to you whether you want to recess the fireplace so that it sits flush against the wall or mount it on the surface of the wall.

The fireplace maintains its clean look even when you surface-mount it thanks to the thin design (it’s only 3.8″ deep).

Issues & Limitations

We don’t recommend the R.W.FLAME 30″ for large rooms. Its small size won’t make a big difference to the room’s décor.

For bigger spaces, we recommend a wall mount electric fireplace that’s at least 50″ wide.

Another downside of the R.W.FLAME 30″ is the lack of a log set; it comes with just crystals. If you love the traditional look of logs, the R.W.FLAME 30″ is not ideal for you.

Bottom Line

The R.W.FLAME 30″ is a great choice for anyone shopping for a wall mounts electric fireplace on a budget. It’s especially ideal for small spaces such as a bedroom, home office, or living room.

9. Most Versatile: ClassicFlame 47II100GRG Felicity 47″

ClassicFlame 47II100GRG Felicity 47" Wall Mounted Infrared Quartz Fireplace, Black Glass Frame

Looking for an electric fireplace that gives you lots of options in terms of installation and appearance? The ClassicFlame 47II100GRG Felicity 47″ electric fireplace is the most versatile one we found.

Pros

  • Three installation options.
  • Three ember bed media options.
  • Adjustable flame color and brightness.
  • Accent up and side lighting with adjustable colors.
  • Powerful infrared heater with thermostat control.

Cons

  • A bit noisy.

Our Review

Let’s start with all the installation options you have with the ClassicFlame Felicity electric fireplace.

You can surface-mount it on the wall. Mounting it on the surface is easy and fast, and allows you to enjoy the accent lighting on the sides and top of the unit.

If you are concerned the 5″ depth of the fireplace will look too boxy on the wall, you can recess it into the wall. This does require a bit more work in the installation, and you won’t enjoy the accent lighting, but you get a cleaner look.

If you don’t want to spend any time mounting or recessing the ClassicFlame Felicity, you can set it up on the floor using the included pedestal. The freestanding option is great if you live in a place such as a rented apartment where you are not allowed to interfere with the wall.

Inside the fireplace, you also have lots of options.

For one, you can choose from three media options for the ember bed: ivory river rocks, rustic driftwood logs, or translucent fire glass crystals. It’s easy to change the media.

ClassicFlame uses Spectrafire flame effect technology that adds realistic blue and amber highlights to the flame to make it appear more realistic. You can select the blue highlights, amber highlights, or combined blue and amber highlights.

You can also adjust the brightness of the flame.

The fun doesn’t end there. The ClassicFlame Felicity comes with mood lighting at the top and sides. Some people think it’s cheesy, and it takes away from the realistic look of the flames. If you don’t like the accent lighting, you can turn it off.

If you love it, choose between five color settings for the sidelights and five for the top lights.

Finally, there’s the heating. The ClassicFlame Felicity uses an infrared heater with a blower to warm medium size and large rooms. The manufacturer says the heater can warm spaces up to 1,000 sq. Ft., but as many customers discovered that’s an exaggeration.

For the best heating, use it in a space that’s smaller that’s around 500 square feet or smaller.

Unlike most electric fireplaces, the ClassicFlame Felicity heater has thermostatic control, meaning you can set a specific temperature.

Of course, the ClassicFlame Felicity comes with remote control. It’d be a pain to control all these features and settings from the unit.

Other options available on the remote control include a timer and the ability to turn the heat and flames on or off independently for year-round comfort.

Issues & Limitations

The main complaint from customers is that the heater blower is a bit noisy.

Bottom Line

The ClassicFlame 47II100GRG Felicity 47″ electric fireplace adapts to your situation and preferences. If you are in an apartment, you can use it as a freestanding electric fireplace. For homeowners, you can recess it or mount it on the wall.

The multiple colors and brightness options allow you to adjust the fireplace to suit the mood or decor.

10. Best Finish: Touchstone 80008 Onyx Electric Fireplace

Touchstone 80008 - Onyx Electric Fireplace - (Mirror) - 50 Inch Wide – On Wall Hanging - 5 Flame Settings - Realistic Flame - 1500/750 Watt Heater - Log & Crystal Included – Timer & Remote

We’ll admit this one is subjective. Some people love the contemporary black finish of most wall mount electric fireplaces. Others love the look of a white trim while others prefer the industrial aesthetic of a stainless steel finish.

The Touchstone 80008 Onyx has none of these finishes. Instead, it features an elegant mirror finish, and we love it.

Pros

  • Beautiful mirror finish.
  • Built-in heater.
  • Easy DIY installation.
  • Two media options.
  • Adjustable flame intensity.

Cons

  • Flames could be brighter.

Our Review

The mirrored finish makes the Touchstone 80008 Onyx look like a TV. In fact, with the flames turned off, it looks exactly like a TV.

Turn the flames on, and the screen bursts to life with realistic flickering and glowing embers. Using the included remote control, you can adjust the flame intensity.

You can also choose which media to put in the ember bed. Both crystals and logs are included with the fireplace.

The built-in 1500W heater is good for rooms up to 400 square feet. If the max setting makes the room too hot, select the lower 750W heat output.

Note: Even with the heater on, the mirrored surface stays cool, making it safe for kids and pets.

As for installation, the Touchstone 80008 Onyx is designed to be mounted on the surface of the wall. All the hardware you need is provided.

Issues & Limitations

The mirrored finish is nice, but it doesn’t allow as much light through it as electric fireplaces with a normal glass front.

The result is that the flames are less bright. They get even harder to see during the day.

Bottom Line

Here’s what to consider when choosing a wall mount electric fireplace.

Type

The first thing to consider is the type of electric fireplace you want. There are two types.

  • Surface-mounted – You mount the fireplace on the surface of the wall. It’s easier to install and move to a new location later on if you need to.
  • Wall-recessed – You recess the electric fireplace so that it sits flush against the wall. A recessed electric fireplace has a cleaner look. On the downside, it takes more time to install, and it’s a hassle to move to a new location.

Surface-mounting or recessing an electric fireplace is usually a DIY job unless installation involves hardwiring the fireplace to the circuit. In that case, you’ll need to hire an electrician.

Note: The installation process for wall mount electric fireplaces and electric fireplace inserts is very different. If you are buying or have bought an electric fireplace insert (the type that goes into an existing fireplace), see our quick electric fireplace insert installation guide.

Size

Wall mount their width sizes of electric fireplaces. The smallest models are about 30″ wide while the longest ones are over 70″ wide.

The best size for most spaces is 50″. A 50-inch wall mount electric fireplace such as the Dimplex Synergy is small enough to fit on most walls and big enough to capture the attention of anyone who walks into the room.

For smaller rooms, get a 30-40″ fireplace or look for a vertical model like the Napoleon Allure-NEFVC38H. For large rooms, a 60″-80″ electric fireplace is the best.

Built-in Heater

Almost all the wall mount electric fireplaces you’ll come across double up as space heaters. Note that an electric fireplace only provides supplemental heat for a single room.

Check the heater output. Most have a 1500W output (or about 5,000 BTUs), enough to heat spaces to 400 sq. ft.

Something else to check is whether you can adjust the heat level. Some electric fireplaces have a high (1500W) and low (750W) setting while other providers finer thermostatic temperature control.

Style

When it comes to style and aesthetics, make sure the fireplace has realistic flames. A fake-looking fireplace is just cheesy.

Also, check the ember bed. If you want a contemporary style, look for an ember bed with crystals. If you love the charm of traditional wood fireplaces, get one with a log ember bed.

Some electric fireplaces come with both crystals and logs, letting you switch between them any time you want a different look.

Check if you can adjust the appearance of the flames in brightness, intensity, and color.

Finally, choose an electric fireplace with a front finish that goes well with the room décor.

Remote Control

Get a wall mount electric fireplace with a remote control so that you can adjust settings from the comfort of your couch.

Don’t forget to check if the remote control has a timer button. The sleep timer turns off the heat and fireplace after a set amount of time.

Wall Mount Electric Fireplaces FAQs

Wall Mount Electric Fireplaces

Do wall mount electric fireplaces give off heat?

Yes, most wall mount electric fireplaces have a built-in space heater.

Does wall mount electric fireplaces need to be vented?

Because they do not burn any fuel and thus have no emissions, electric fireplaces do not need venting.

Are electric fireplaces tacky?

It depends on the quality and style of the electric fireplace. Nowadays, manufacturers can produce electric fireplaces that look very realistic with the same charm of a traditional fireplace.

Can I put a TV above a wall mount electric fireplace?

Yes, you can, but make sure there’s at least 24″ between the top of the fireplace and the bottom of the TV. This prevents the TV from getting too hot.

If your electric fireplace doesn’t have a built-in heater, you don’t need any clearance between the TV and fireplace.

Can I leave an electric fireplace on all night?

Yes, you can. Electric fireplaces have an overheat safety switch that turns the heater off if it gets too hot.

If you want to sleep with the fireplace or heater turned on, we recommend setting a sleep timer so that it turns off after a few hours.

Are wall mount electric fireplaces safe?

Yes, they are. They are safer than wood or gas fireplaces. That’s because the front of a wall mount electric fireplace stays cool to the touch. So kids and pets are safe.

The only part that gets warm is near the vents where hot air blows from. These vents are usually located at the top out of reach of little hands and paws.
